The illustrations for Carmen Via - Journey in the Songlines of Italy were created by Rolfe Horn, an American photographer with an international reputation for extraordinary landscapes. The story of how he came to be involved in this book is told in About the Photographer. There are several remarkable things about these images. Firstly, they are a visual sythesis of each chapter which required complex skills, imagination and a truly 'zen' eye. The images together tell their own story and each stands alone as a story in itself. Secondly, they were taken on a journey in particular 'songlines' during the last two weeks of February 2005. The weather was 'awful' and yet the more awful the weather, the more contented was Rolfe! There is a wonderful story to be told about the image of Subiaco which involves grappa and the singing of plain song! Rolfe Horn is an exceptional photographer and a remarkable person. We are truly grateful for his outstanding gift of storytelling which he chose to share most generously. These images can be purchased individually. |
